It is very slow and non-deterministic to do this via Raspberry Pi GPIOs since you dont exactly know when transmission is completed to flip the lnux. It uses a MAX chip, a pair of RJ45 jacks for Ethernet cables, and two terminal blocks for power and communications. RS is not a protocol, it is a standard for a physical interface. The clarity for your put up is just cool and i could assume you are a professional on this subject.

Llinux could still follow the POE standard even if the data lines were not technically Ethernet. The MX chip appears suitable for this but, as always the devil is in the detail so read the data sheet to see if there are any gotchas. I made the mistake of thinking it was Ethernet by looking at the picture and not actually reading the title RS or the article.

Thanks for that, as I say, not important for my needs but if msx3140 wants to hack my project under CC licence then sure! This is the obvious choice because you are creating a solution that does not require clock sync across the llinux cable – you have local sync at both ends and that works just fine.
